Celebrated every year on April 22, Earth Day is the largest environmental event in the world. More than six million Canadians – including nearly every school-aged child – participate in an Earth Day activity in their communities. Earth Day is partners with and supports hundreds of organizations across the country, as they engage Canadians in annual celebrations of this important day.
One way LDC supports Earth Day is by offering the option of eco-friendly dock seals. Traditional dock seal manufacturing methods utilize a wood support. LDC offers an eco-friendly option which uses a steel support instead. This choice helps reduce the amount of trees harvested while the finished product looks exactly the same as the other. In fact, it actually performs better than wood in that future problems, like rotting, warping, shrinking, cracking and splitting are avoided.
Another eco-friendly option LDC offers is to provide Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certified lumber, if requested, to aid in LEED certification of buildings.
Finally, it might interest you to know that LDC uses special foam in its dock seals and pads called “Bioplush”. Bioplush is made with a proportion of renewable materials such as a plant base and seed oils, instead of 100% polyurethane and other added chemicals.
LDC is pleased to do its part in helping to make our planet stay healthy for future generations to come.
